Catering for 6000: Food Delights at the European Cricket Event ‘23

Purple Pepper were honoured to provide food catering for the recent European Cricket Championship Event 2023 – and what a ride it has been so far! Hosted in sunny Malaga, the occasion is a cricket lover’s dream, and is leaving locals hungry to get involved in the action.

The championships kicked off on September 25th, and Spain did not disappoint. Two wins on the first day? That’s what you call electrifying the pitch.

With 450 players, 31 teams from the old continent and a grand finale on October 20th, the championships is the talk of the town. Even José María Arrabal, head honcho at the Junta de Andalucía’s sports department, couldn’t resist being part of the action – and was there on opening day to highlight the government commitment to promoting the growing sport. The tournament has the collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports and will be attended by many local groups of school children.

But hey, we’re not just here to talk about cricket; we’re diving into the mouth-watering food that has made this event a home run so far—or should we say, a sixer? So how have we approached the task of catering delicious fresh dishes for such a large scale – and high profile – sporting event over 24 days?

We’ve had all hands on deck since day one! Our team is still buzzing with energy, prepping and cooking up a storm to make sure everyone is well-fed and happy.

Our top caterers have been serving breakfast, lunch and dinners throughout the day, with a selection of daily changing menus. Ensuring we’re catering for different dietary needs, our menus include vegan and vegetarian options, as well as fish, chicken and beef. And we’re pleased to say all our meats are halal!

So what types of dishes have we been serving up to keep cricketing fans happy as they watch the action?

Our Mushroom and Cauliflower Bhaji is a veggie delight that’s spiced to perfection. And our crowd pleasing Chicken Caesar Salad with parmesan cheese and garlic croutons has been going down a treat.

You’ll also find some new exotic additions to our menus this year – our Chicken Kapsa, an Arabian dish that’s a blend of spices and tender chicken, Chicken Tandoori with steamed rice, and Beef Madras Curry that packs a punch with its rich and spicy gravy.

Finals day is big, and we wanted to make it even more special. So, every Wednesday and Saturday, we donate a special dessert. Imagine biting into a White Chocolate and Oat Flapjack while watching the final over… And if that’s not your cup of tea, how about some Homemade Kulfi Ice Cream with hints of vanilla, cardamom, and pistachio?

We’re also delighted to announced that Purple Pepper is offering free meals to children in partnership with the World Food Program. Taking full advantage of the hype around this year’s tournament, we wanted to raise awareness and give back to the community, supporting our strong belief that good nutritious food should be accessible to everyone, especially those in need.
